About Brian J Plowman, Owner/Instructor
Brian's education in the proper use and responsibilities associated with firearms began at the age of 8, under the tutelage of his father. As a young adult, Brian served his country as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force. While serving his country, he rose through the ranks in the field of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) where each mistake could be his, or worse, his teams last. His military training and combat experience taught him attention to detail, situational awareness, rapid draw and reloading and many other skills you will find offered in his course options. After the military, Brian's civilian life culminated in the founding of North Texas Shooting (NTS). As are most start-ups, NTS began as Brian's side hustle. Business began to grow in 2019. In 2022, Brian and his wife moved to East Texas. Slow to make new client contacts in a new region of Texas, Brian patiently persevered. By 2025, North Texas Shooting is already reaching new clients.
Our History
Brian first entered the firearms industry working at the local retail and gun range facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (DFW) including as security for major outdoor sports related businesses. While there he also worked behind the gun counter, and in the vault learning the business side of firearms. Relocating to East Texas in 2022, Brian continued to pursue a client base while continuing to work in the security field as well as a Range Safety Officer (RSO) when the position offered itself. Rising up through the security industry and its licensing levels Brian continues to sharpen his real world situational awareness, range skills and public interactions, favoring deescalation as a first contact approach.
